Thinkengine Networks is at the forefront of providing next generation platforms and solutions that are designed to leverage the strengths of VoIP centric technologies such as SIP while at the same time able to support the stringent requirements of carriers and service providers.  Thinkengine products are architected from the ground up to leverage current and emerging SIP standards.  Thinkengine’s flagship platform, the VSR1000, supports up to 1000 communications channels that can be either PSTN or VoIP or a mixture of both.  A unique feature of the VSR1000 is that all VSR1000 based services use SIP to control all calls whether PSTN-based or VoIP-based.  This approach encourages rapid adoption of SIP-based services and insures future-proof service development.  By supporting simultaneous access to both PSTN and VoIP networks, the VSR1000 serves to significantly minimize deployment complexity and facilitates unique solutions that mix the use of both types of networks.

VSR1000 Platform

Thinkengine Network’s VSR1000(TM) represents a breakthrough in the delivery of CONVERGED advanced voice services for wireline, wireless, cable, and independent service providers.  Combining an unparallel level of feature integration and cost efficiency makes the VSR1000 the ideal platform for voice service deployments.  Carrier class support for VoIP and PSTN networks, the VSR1000 supports future-proof service development and deployment over a wide range of deployment scenarios.  The VSR1000 combines the best features of a Media Gateway, Media Server, Conferencing Bridge, and Voice Recognition Server into a compact, cost effective platform.  The 1U VSR1000 is capable of supporting 1000 simultaneous connections - with any mix of PSTN and VoIP.

Open Service Environment

The VSR1000 strikes a unique balance between turnkey functionality and standards-based openness to facilitate rapid service development and deployment.  The various services available on the VSR1000 have been developed to provide useful functionality "out of the box".  Many services have been deployed this way and are generating revenue immediately after system installation.  When integration to external services is required, the VSR1000 open control and event notification model utilizes SIP signaling to enable external services to register for events and exert call control as necessary.  Examples of events are call arrival and termination, OnWord recognition and DTMF key presses.

This open philosophy can be easily demonstrated with Thinkengine’s Mid Call Conference service which allows a service subscriber to add many callers to the same call.  This service is turnkey and will function immediately when the system is installed without the need for integration support from external services.  A service provider, though,  may want to add functionality to provide a desktop client to display conference attendees.  The external service which renders the desktop display subscribes to the appropriate events so that it can be notified whenever a call arrives or terminates so that it can update the subscriber’s display accordingly.  Further, if the service provider wishes to allow subscriber control over attendees using the desktop client, the VSR1000 can be instructed to set up a SIP based control channel which mirrors the “real” communication session with all the callers.
